An ethnography of a dissident youth subculture during the 1990s in Seattle, Washington. As a response to the commodified discourse of youth subcultures, these White skin middle class youths see themselves as "unwillingly aligned with a corporate-capitalist System" of domination. "By choosing for themselves a kind of ’downward mobility’, they seek to oppose the artifice of ’Mainstream’ American society and its commodified culture, and create an ’authentic, autonomous’ culture. By articulating punk and anarchist philosophies, the ideology of these youths responds to important phenomena in the contemporary structure of feeling".
