“ Anarchism and nationalism are normally considered mutually exclusive political philosophies. This study attempts to show that in some circumstances anarchism may in fact be informed by a strong sense of national identity and concern for the interests of the nation, … Italian anarchism was strongly influenced by the nationalist themes of the Risorgimento.
Italian anarchism was established in cooperation with the Russian anarchist Bakunin, but its development, it is shown, was strongly influenced by the nationalist themes of the Risorgimento. The study concludes with a brief outline of another anarchist movement driven by a nationalist impulse, the Makhnovshchina in Ukraine during the Russian Revolution ".
