Secession

Interest in secession has grown rapidly over the last decade as the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia broke apart into numerous states such as Latvia and Kosovo. Political focus on the question of what regions have a right to secede has increased greatly and become a crucial matter. In the United States, groups in Vermont, Hawaii, and Texas have formed to reclaim their states’ status as
independent nations. But most of all, since this year’s presidential
elections in the U.S., the division of red and blue states has brought the
word “secede” daily to our attention.
