MERCIER-VEGA, Louis (1914-1977).- Pseud. de Charles CORTVRINTBOOKCHIN, Murray (14 janvier 1921 – 30 juillet 2006) Centro Studi Libertari, Milano (Italia)

There is a long tradition of anarchist circles and workshops, which since the 19th century promoted conferences, educational activities, popular universities, libraries. It is organized by working people for the working people, on a voluntary basis, and it aims to suppress the division between intellectual and manual labor, individual and communautarian development. Though ignored by the mainstream media, it exists, if only in modest ways, in a large number of the major cities in Europe, Asia and America.

The nascent intellectual interest in anarchist ideas, since the mid twentieth century, originated a number of high quality journals, such as the four language Interrogations, which played a seminal role in the expansion of ideas and programs, particularly in France and Italy. The International Center for Research on Anarchism (CIRA) in Lausanne, Switzerland, which offers works in more than 25 languages, has also been since its foundation, the indispensable crossroad for international researchers. In the United States and in Europe, Murray Bookchin has played a major role in the dissemination of anarchist ideas, particularly within the ecological movement.
More recently, with the appearance of the Internet, A-Infos, imitated by other initiatives, has offered a wide collection of rare or important texts. Anarchist history, which probably is the most significant pursuit of many students and scholars, has also given birth to an incredible number of websites.
The following Centers are particularly interested in promoting research in response to present urgencies and commitments.
