Following independence from Spain in 1898, Cuba’s anarchists on social problems, including the victimization of women, particularly those of the working class. The image of women was used as a symptom of health, family and work issues.
On a more negative side, they saw women as an opposition force to progress and they promoted the ideal of female heroines.
Anarchists used popular cultural forms: newspapers, novels, short stories, plays and revolutionary songs.
