Examines different salons, ideologies, activism of the Parisian bohemian artistic avant-garde of the "Belle Epoque" and their relation to art. While artists advocated revolutionary aesthetics but later suppressed and abandoned the idea, salons were more opposed to attack on form than on social critique.
