Examines the historical, political, and cultural factors that affected the founding and ultimate demise of the Sunrise Colony (1933-36), a communal group in Michigan during the Great Depression, and compares the historical and social-psychological context of the Sunrise Colony with that of the more successful kibbutz in Palestine during the 1930’s.
