Summary  :
The thesis focuses on Luis Emilio Recabarren (1876-1924), a typographer who played an important part in Chilean social history.
The introduction brings out the most significant moments of his career. The first chapter brings up the methodological problems presented by this particular study. The three following chapters are about the democratic, anarchist and socialist political cultures respectively which structured Recabarren’s political imagination.
These imaginary structures affected Recabarren’s reading of politics to the extent that political problems were always represented in terms of his particular system of images symbols.
The fifth chapter is about Recabarren’s political heritage.
Abrief conclusion sums up the original aspects of this study while opening up potential research avenues for the future.
The text is completed with a long bibliographical chapter, a detailed chronology and an index.
