Author’s presentation
"The first Red scare in the United States was directed at anarchism during the last quarter of the nineteenth century. The campaign is analyzed in the magazine writers’ treatment of the movement and its adherents. By being fashioned into a condensation symbol that evoked a moral, genetic, and cultural threat, anarchism’s ideas and political orientation became socially unimaginable in America"
